Byland Mixture, York Red Bricks and H14 Clay Roof Tiles
Burnholme Green, York
Crest Building Products is proud to have supplied facing bricks and clay roof tiles to Burnholme Green, the City of York Council's first zero-carbon housing development. This landmark scheme delivers 78 high-quality homes, alongside custom-build plots, all thoughtfully arranged around generous green spaces that promote healthy, sustainable living.
Designed to meet a variety of housing needs, the development includes a mix of one to four-bedroom homes, fully accessible properties, and multigenerational homes, creating a vibrant and inclusive community for residents.
For this low-carbon project, our Byland Mixture and York Red facing bricks were selected to create a distinctive and contemporary aesthetic. The soft blend of pale browns, pink-reds and buff tones in the Byland Mixture complements the warm, textured character of the York Red, providing both visual appeal and long-term durability.
Completing the build, our H14 interlocking clay pantiles were chosen to provide a traditional roof profile with modern performance. Manufactured from premium clay to the highest technical standards, the red-brown roof tiles perfectly complement the brickwork and enhance the overall design.
Developed in collaboration with residents and designed by Stirling Prize-winning architects Mikhail Riches, Burnholme Green is setting a new benchmark for sustainable housing. The use of off-site manufacturing methods has also helped reduce on-site activity and improve construction efficiency.
As part of York's wider housing delivery programme, the development contributes towards the council's ambition to provide 600 new homes across the city, with up to 60% designated as affordable housing.
